NEXTGEN TEAM

Skate Canada has announced the skaters that have been assigned to the NextGen team for the 2022-2023 season. In singles, 24 skaters have been named, with four pairs and 10 ice dance teams on the rosters.

Based on the results of the 2022 World Junior Championships, Canada can send three pairs teams to the four Junior Grand Prix events in the upcoming season; two ice dance teams and one man to all seven, and one woman to six competitions.

Given his success last season, Wesley Chiu will likely get at least one senior B along with two Junior Grand Prix assignments. Anthony Paradis, the 2022 national junior champion, who broke his foot shortly after nationals and was unable to train for months, is now back on the ice preparing for the upcoming season.

Kaiya Ruiter competed at two Junior Grand Prix events in France last summer but was absent from the scene for the remainder of the season. Fiona Bombardier, the daughter of three-time Canadian ladies champion Josée Chouinard and Jean-Michel Bombardier, a two-time national pairs champion, has also been named to the team.
